Gucha - Distant Trumpet

Du±an Milić, director, and Emir Kusturica, producer, present a cheerful artistic variation on the theme of Shakespearean love stronger than family relations and social conventions, set in the colourful landscapes of contemporary Serbia.

Juliana, the 16-year-old daughter of a great Serbian trumpet player, Satchmo, falls in love with Romeo, a young trumpet player from a rival Roma orchestra, Sandokan's Tigers. Satchmo utterly rejects Romeo because of his descent and he would do anything to separate the couple. Meanwhile, a great Serbian festival of trumpet players - a competition in Gucha, is coming. It is the only chance for the couple, as Satchmo has promised to accept the boy only if he outplays Satchmo at the competition, in an unusual duel of trumpets. It seems impossible, for Romeo must play better than the best Serbian trumpet player. Will he succeed?
