Sławomir Fabicki


Born in Warsaw in 1970. In 1995 he finished a screenplay writing course at the National Film, Television & Theatre School in ŁódĽ. In 2001 he graduated in film directing from the ŁódĽ school. Two years later he graduated from the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing. He directed and wrote screenplays for a number of films which gained international recognition, including: Wewnętrzny 55 (Extension 55, 1997, a documentary), Bratobójstwo (Fratricide, 1999, a short film), Po drugiej stronie lasu (The Other Side of the Forest, 1999, a documentary), Ka¶ka, bimber i motocykl (Kathy, Moonshine & Motorcycle, 1999, a short film), Męska sprawa (A Man Thing, 2001, a short film, nearly thirty awards at international festivals, a nomination for Oscar 2002 for Live Action Short Film), Łucja i jej dzieci (Lucy and Her Children, 2003, a TV play, main prize at the Two Theatres Festival), Wesołe miasteczko (The Amusement Park, 2004, a TV play), Z odzysku (Retrieval, 2006, a feature film, around twenty awards and nominations at Polish and international festivals, including Un Certain Regard official selection of the Cannes festival in 2006, Special Mention prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 2006 Cannes festival, and Polish candidature for Oscar nomination 2007 in the Best Foreign Language Film category). He is currently working on his second full-length feature Bonobo Jingo. It was considered the best European film project of the New Cinema Network programme at the recent international Roma Film Fest. Sławomir Fabicki has been a member of the European Film Academy since 2001.
